NLF: Jose Cuervo Black Medallion
Jose Cuervo Black Medallion Tequila
80 Proof – Tequila
Approx. $23.99 750ml
Now I’m not really a huge tequila drinker as I tend to prefer rums and whiskeys when I’m drinking. Mainly because they usually go better with coke than your average tequila, which for the majority, most people will drink as a shot, in a margarita, or some other mixed variation with some type of fruity juice. But Jose Cuervo Black has created a blend that seems almost intended to be mixed with soda. Most likely, that’s why it was my go-to drink a not too long ago.
What gives it a taste different from your everyday tequila is that it’s aged in a charred oak barrel similar to a lot of whiskeys. So at first you get a good flavorful tequila but the after taste has that charred oak taste like you just took a shot of whiskey. Once you add some coke and ice, it’s damn near impossible to not finish the bottle. And after the bottle’s empty you sometimes learn a thing or two. Like for instance, did you know that if you’re pretty drunk and bake a McDonald’s hamburger covered in hot sauce in the oven for about 10 minutes, it’s insanely delicious. I was unaware if it, but Jose showed me the light the other night. I have yet to try this sober, and it could have just been the fact that I was drungry that made it edible. I also just made that word up by the way. It’s like munchies for alcoholics, when you just get hit out of nowhere with an unexpected drunken hunger. Go ahead and use it and tell your friends.
Honestly if it wasn’t for the cost, I would probably drink this more often, but I can get my favorite rum in a 1.75l bottle for around the same price. And that pretty much sums up how it lost the title of my go-to liquor. But Cuervo Black still has to be one of my favorites, so every now and then, I have to grab a bottle and empty it in my belly.
